Have You Considered This About The Snow?

Entering the Treasures of the Snow: The Altar in a Time of Shutdown

Praise God. Speaking with the Lord this morning, He began knitting together thoughts about the winter storm, the snow, and its impact. There is always more happening than what meets the eye. I sensed the Lord urging me to share this so that we don’t miss what He wants to give us in this moment.

Yesterday, I was walking with my kids through the snow. They were no angels, but the scene itself was beautiful. As I looked around the neighborhood, I was reminded of Scripture:

“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us.” Psalm 90:17

It is the beauty of God—His glory—that He wants us to experience so that we can be established in places we have not yet been.

"SNOVID" and the Invitation to Pause

While walking, my kids said, “This is SNOVID.” And honestly, it is. Things are closed. People are stuck at home. Kids are out of school. Much like COVID, there is a deeper invitation here.

I’ve been sharing that 2026 is the Year of the Altar, and on the Hebrew calendar, this is also the Year of the Anchor. These themes are intertwined. The altar is a place of meeting with God—a place of communion, surrender, and renewed vows. It is where we anchor ourselves in Him.

The Treasures Hidden in the Snow

“Have you entered the treasury of the snow, or have you seen the treasury of the hail?” Job 38:22

When God brings snow in an amount that causes us to stop, there are hidden treasures. There is revelation, peace, fruitfulness, and blessing concealed in the inconvenience.

The Snow That Washes and Cleanses

“If I wash myself with snow water, and cleanse my hands with soap…” Job 9:30

God uses snow as a picture of cleansing. He wants to wash away the residue of the world—trauma, anxiety, fear, and heaviness.

Making God Your Dwelling Place

“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.” Psalm 90:1

In this Year of the Altar and the Year of the Anchor, make God your dwelling place.

A Closing Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank You for the treasures hidden in the snow. Draw us back to the altar. Cleanse us by the water of Your word. Teach us to sit, to listen, and to hear Your voice.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and give you peace. Amen.
