Defeating Jezebel: When Corruption Enters the Church

This is installment number two in our series on Jezebel. We are not going to promote or exalt this spirit. We are going to put our feet on its neck and get set free.

In the first installment, I shared a dream involving a pastor who was walking in pride, domination, carnality, and sexual corruption. He was heavily influenced by the spirit of Jezebel and was defiling a young woman while celebrating what he was doing as though he were performing in a music video.

The dream revealed how this spirit can take people into places they never imagined they would go. I recently spoke with a pastor friend who was ministering to someone arrested for inappropriate acts with a child. That person told him, “If you had told me two years ago that I would do something like this, I would have punched you in the face.”

That is why we need truth. Jesus said the truth will make us free, but freedom comes through more than simply hearing truth. We must become acquainted with the truth. We must know Jesus.

To know Him means to let Him in. It means allowing Him to have residence, rule, and reign within us.

Corruption Moves Into the Church

On the second night, I had the same dream again, but this time there was a continuation.

I saw the same scene involving a pastor and a young woman engaged in sexual immorality, but the location had changed. In the first dream, it happened inside a limousine with tinted windows. It was hidden, secret, and away from the church.

In the continuation, it was happening inside a church I know very well. I believe that church is presently being indoctrinated by the spirit of Jezebel.

We must understand that the spirit of Jezebel does not always manifest in its fullest measure. The Jezebel who slaughtered prophets in 1 Kings is not the only expression of this spirit. It manifests according to how much access and authority it is given.

There are measures of wickedness. There is darkness, and there is gross darkness. There are different depths of corruption.

This spirit can be present in a church without everyone noticing it. It may be operating through one person, sometimes the person in authority. It may not yet have taken deep root because others are resisting it, or because even the person under its influence is resisting complete servitude to it.

There may be a covenant with the spirit without wholehearted surrender to it. But the influence is still present.

Hidden Perversion in Sacred Places

In the dream, I saw a pastor and his wife present while the same sexual immorality was taking place inside the church building.

It reminded me of Ezekiel, when the Lord instructed the prophet to dig through the wall and showed him what was happening secretly inside the temple. What was hidden from public view was filled with perversity.

This is happening in some churches. Sexual immorality is being committed by pastors whom no one would expect to participate in such behavior.

We cannot judge only by outward appearances.

Right now, I am praying for a church where a serious report has surfaced, but the church appears to be trying to move forward as if nothing happened. Perhaps the parishioners are struggling to believe that the pastor they thought they knew could be capable of what has been reported.

That reaction is natural, but it does not remove our responsibility to watch and pray.

You Must Protect Your Household

It is not only the pastor, the house prophet, or your favorite minister on YouTube who is responsible for exposing what is happening.

You have a role in protecting yourself and your household.

Believe what you hear the Lord say.

None of us is a perfect judge, but Jesus instructed us to judge with righteous judgment. That means righteous judgment is possible when we seek the Spirit, the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness.

The Lord can give us wisdom, understanding, knowledge, insight, and practical discernment.

You may begin to sense control or domination operating in a place. That is not of God.

The goal of Jezebel is to rule. When this spirit manifests in a greater measure, it seeks to control an entire community. But it often begins by appealing to the pride and lust of the person it is trying to corrupt.

Silence, Discernment, and Leaving Wisely

In my notes from January 2025, I wrote that this was happening in churches around the world, including through pastors no one would expect and some who are very prominent.

In the dream, two people in the church sat silently at a round table while they watched what was happening. They knew something was wrong, but they said nothing.

Eventually, they had seen enough and left.

I want to help set you free from the idea that you can never leave a church.

I am not encouraging people to leave their churches carelessly. But the Spirit of God loves you, and over time He may begin to prick your heart and help you recognize what is happening around you.

There may come a point when you are so disturbed by what you are witnessing that you can no longer focus on worship. At that point, you must begin weighing what you see and asking the Lord whether you need to separate yourself.

We do not separate ourselves to please people. We do it for the Lord.

“Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 6:17

When the world has entered a church to the degree that you can no longer worship, it may be time to leave. That decision must be made between you and the Lord.

When Leadership Refuses to Confront Sin

Later in the dream, one of the church’s pastors walked onto the platform. I approached him and asked whether he had heard about the sexual corruption taking place in the church.

He said yes, but he did not seem interested in talking about it.

This is dangerous. When leadership becomes aware of sexual exploitation, promiscuity, or immorality within the church and refuses to address it, the corruption is given room to remain.

Do not try to force people to change when they have decided not to deal with what is happening. Do not fight them. Let them go and trust God to help them.

Understanding a Breach in the Hedge

Later, I sat down with the same pastor and asked him about the breach in the spirit that was operating in the church.

God places a hedge around His people. Job had a hedge around him, his household, and everything he possessed. Even Satan recognized that the hedge was there.

But a breach can occur when a person steps outside of righteousness and enters into sin. The Holy Spirit will not partner with sin.

Righteousness is like a protective boundary that God establishes around us. When we sin and refuse to repent, the breach remains open.

I told the pastor that I had seen the breach coming and asked whether he remembered me warning him. He said yes.

As we sat together, I sensed that his wife was nearby and behaving inappropriately. The remainder of the dream became very personal, but the principle was clear: some pastors are being influenced by wives who are themselves influenced by the spirit of Jezebel.

When a Spouse Becomes a Gateway

Scripture gives us several examples of influential men who faced pressure through covenant relationships.

David had Michal. Moses had Zipporah. Job had his wife. Joseph faced temptation through Potiphar’s wife. Ahab was in a codependent relationship with Jezebel.

The enemy targets influential people. Because marriage is a righteous covenant, the enemy may try to use that relationship as a gateway to control a man of God and the church he serves.

This does not mean a husband should not love his wife. Scripture commands husbands to love their wives. But a man must fear the Lord rather than fear his spouse.

Michal Tried to Silence David’s Worship

David presided over one of the most extraordinary worship celebrations in Scripture when the ark was brought into the City of David.

He sacrificed before the Lord, danced with all his might, blessed the people, and then returned home to bless his household.

Jezebel often tries to appear after a victory.

When David returned home, Michal met him with a hardened and bitter heart. She criticized him for dancing before the Lord and attempted to make him ashamed of his freedom in worship.

She wanted to dominate him, redirect him, and make him apologize for being free.

Jezebel wants you to apologize for being in love with Jesus. Do not do it.

“And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight.”2 Samuel 6:22

David refused to be intimidated. He declared that he would become even more undignified in his worship.

Zipporah Resisted the Required Sacrifice

Zipporah also attempted to intimidate Moses when she resisted the circumcision of their son.

She eventually performed the circumcision, threw the foreskin at Moses’ feet, and called him a husband of blood.

Bitterness was present. She did not like the sacrifice that her husband was required to make before the Lord.

She treated her husband’s calling and sacrifice as though it were primarily about her.

Michal was not called to worship exactly as David worshiped. Zipporah was not called to carry Moses’ assignment in the same way he carried it.

Comparison, bitterness, family wounds, and unresolved issues can become gateways through which control enters a covenant relationship.

Solomon’s Heart Was Turned Away

Solomon provides another sobering example.

His many foreign wives turned his heart away from the living God and toward idols. The man who built the temple of God began building temples for false gods.

God had warned Israel not to marry women from surrounding nations because they would turn their hearts toward idolatry.

The covenant God intended to be holy became perverted when Solomon stopped allowing the Lord to rule his heart.

A man can love his wife while still recognizing that his heart belongs first to God. He must not give his wife a place of authority that belongs only to the Lord.

We must pray for pastors to become more and more possessed by Jesus.

The Mount of Corruption

I believe this dream revealed the infection of Jezebel and its control through sexual perversion and the establishment of a mount of corruption by church leaders.

These spirits are active in America and in the global Church. Leaders who allow the enemy to establish this mount of corruption become partners with it.

“Then the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the south of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon.” 2 Kings 23:13

These high places had become counterfeit places of worship.

Jezebel attempts to keep people from having a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus. It replaces His unfailing, beautiful, forgiving, and merciful love with intimidation, domination, corruption, sexual perversion, and fear.

It replaces the fear of the Lord with the fear of leadership.

Whenever leadership attempts to make people afraid of them, Jezebel is in the room.

Ashtoreth and Counterfeit Prosperity

Ashtoreth represented fertility and counterfeit prosperity.

Its message was, “Serve this god and you will prosper.” We see a similar corruption when church leaders promote prosperity by displaying their own wealth and telling people to follow them.

Temple prostitution involving both men and women was connected to this worship. Ashtoreth represented sexual immorality disguised as a pathway to victory and prosperity.

Jezebel seeks to replace victory through Jesus with victory through a counterfeit god.

Chemosh and Counterfeit Victory

Chemosh represented counterfeit victory through violence, murder, and human sacrifice.

This is a false cross. Something may be labeled Christian and associated with Jesus while operating through cruelty, force, and abuse.

We must not try to make violence righteous simply because it serves our political preferences.

There is a spirit of Jezebel operating in American politics. We must pray for political leaders to be set free, humbled, and brought under the rule of Jesus.

Molech and Counterfeit Protection

Milcom, Molech, or Moloch represented counterfeit lordship and protection.

Instead of trusting Jesus and the Father for protection, people turned to a false god that demanded child sacrifice.

This spirit places future generations on the altar because people are afraid they will not be protected or provided for.

It is connected to abortion, witchcraft, divination, consulting the dead, and other attempts to find protection or direction outside of God.

I am not condemning anyone. God can redeem anything.

He redeemed David after David arranged the death of Uriah and took his wife. If God could redeem that, He can redeem anything.

But we must recognize that fear outside of the fear of the Lord leads people toward counterfeit protection and counterfeit peace.

This spirit is attempting to destroy the spiritual lives of our children and generations. Jezebel is at the root of much that is happening in our nation, and God is exposing it.

A Prayer for Truth, Repentance, and Freedom

Father, You are good. Continue to expose these schemes.

I pray that as we know the truth, we will be set free—free to become people of worship and people of service.

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. You are calling us to forgiveness and repentance.

We repent for embracing ideologies of forceful domination that have opened the door to corruption.

The world often looks at the Church and does not see Jesus. Instead, people see believers who resemble the abusive figures from their past, and they want no part of it.

Help us turn away from this. Help us search our hearts and pray.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May He lift His countenance upon you and give you peace.
